Views from O Alto do Cebreiro

From up here, the view is lost towards the lands of León and you can see the villages that the pilgrims have left behind on their Camino, such as La Laguna and other small towns in the surrounding area, such as Cernada. The green tones of the countryside blend with the ochre tones of the lush forests in a valley that seems, more than real, an optical illusion.

The pallozas of O Cebreiro

The pallozas are constructions of Celtic origin and circular shape characteristic of the mountains of the Iberian Peninsula, adapted as dwellings to the climate of the area. Made of stone and protected by a peculiar multi-layered thatched roof, they resist the most insistent rain and even the thickest snow. In them, families and their animals were sheltered for warmth, they kept their farming tools and, in short, they lived their lives in winter.

The Alto de San Roque welcomes the visitor to Pedrafita with an imposing statue that pays tribute to the tremendous effort that pilgrims make when climbing this tough mountain pass.
The Pilgrim Monument is located at an altitude of 1270 meters and is the work of the Galician sculptor José María Acuña. It is located in one of the most emblematic points of the French Way and symbolizes the struggle of pilgrims on their way against the cold, rain and, often, snow.
